Onchan husband and wife team Mark and Eunice Cubbon scored a dominant victory on Saturday’s Riverside Furniture Jurby Stages Rally on the Isle of Man.

The pair set the fastest time on ten of the twelve airfield stages in their Mitsubishi Evo 7, finishing with a 28 second victory margin, despite easing off late in the day.

The result means that they extend their lead at the top of the Eurocars Motorsport Manx Rally Championship, having won each of the first three rounds. It is the first time a hat-trick of successive round wins has been achieved in recent times.

Reigning champions Richard Curphey/Andrew Holmes finished as runners-up on their first run in a recently acquired Vauxhall Astra. They held the spot throughout, going fastest on each of the last two tests and joint fastest on another two.

Kex Walker/Danni Matthews (BMW 325) scooped a maiden podium finish in third overall, finishing just nine seconds clear of Noel Kelly/Andy Sweetman (Evo 6).

Kelly had struggled with handbrake problems, and an intermittent cut-out on stage seven, but eventually lost out on third place after being hit with a 20-second penalty for hitting course markers.

John Kirkpatrick/Marty Quine (Astra RWD) showed a real return to form, holding third place themselves until a lurid 100mph plus spin on stage nine cost almost half a minute, dropping them to fifth.

Nigel Cannel/Nick Kaighin (Astra) finished sixth to take the front-wheel drive, two litre class award, while James Pettigrew/Emma Kennaugh (Vauxhall Corsa) claimed the 1600cc honours and Kevin Vondy/Will Rand (Corsa) were best 1400cc.
